Running Start student volunteers at
KSVR-FM and joins the radio club

KSVR has lots of volunteer opportunities for youth to help out at the station!  Meet McKain Webb-Lakey, a Running-Start student at Skagit Valley College, who is also a member of the recently-formed KSVR student-radio club! She hosts a unique music program on Wednesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. that is mostly folk music and old-time radio. [Broadcast Schedule]

We asked her a few questions about her experiences so far and why she became involved with her local, community radio station:

What inspired you to become involved with KSVR Radio?

I've always been into music, and when I started at Skagit Valley College, I received an email from Student Life about a radio club here on campus.

McKain takes a quick break during her weekly wednesday program for a pose!

Any advise for listeners out there who might be interested in volunteering?

I thought hosting a radio program would be a cool opportunity, and what's great about a community radio station is you don't have a certain set list to play, and there are not too many community radio stations still in existence so they need our support!

A list of volunteer opportunities you can take advantage of at KSVR-FM

LIBRARIAN — Help organize our CD library for program producers! We're looking for someone who is organized, with attention to detail, and willing to devote a few hours per week to create an efficient filing system for the KSVR CD library.

RADIO READERS — Want to try your voice out over the airwaves? We're seeking a few people to read public service announcements (PSA's) over the airwaves to promote local events and non-profit organizations.

PROGRAM HOSTS — Do you have an idea for a program on KSVR? We're always seeking program hosts for both radio and talk programs.  Learn how to produce top-notch radio programs with a team of talented staff and volunteers here at KSVR!

EVENT HELP — KSVR would like to be everywhere

at once (sometimes, it seems). We need volunteers willing to go out into the local community and record everything from formal presentations to musical events.  We'll supply the materials and training, and if you're interested, show you how to turn radio recordings into a spectacular finished product, ready for broadcast.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER? First, familiarize yourself with KSVR - check out the early history of KSVR posted at this website, tune in to some of the local programs produced here on KSVR, take a look at our profile on blogspot or facebook (just click on the links at the KSVR home page).  If KSVR looks like a place you'd like to help out, download this Volunteer Application and mail to:
